Background:
Columbia University (officially Columbia University in the City of New York) is a private Ivy League research university in New York City. It is the oldest institution of higher education in New York and one of the nine colonial colleges founded prior to the Declaration of Independence.
Program Details:
Columbia University's Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) and USTC have decided to partner up and help USTC students earn a degreeat each institution.
After successful completion of degree requirements, students will receive a Bachelor of Science (4 years) from USTC, and one of the following Master of Science degrees from Columbia:
MS degree in Financial Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Business Analytics (one year, 36 US credits) or
MS degree in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering (one year, 30 US credits).
This admissions arrangement involves no transfer credit, no reduction in graduation requirements, and no reduction in credits for either degree (the bachelors at USTC and masters at Columbia). All degree requirements of a school will be earned by participating students at that school.
Taken on its own as a stand-alone program, the Columbia M.S. degrees mentioned above require a minimum of:
· 36 credits for Master of Science Degree in Financial Engineering
· 36 credits for Master of Science Degree in Management Science & Engineering
· 36 credits for Master of Science Degree in Business Analytics
· 30 credits for Master of Science Degree in Operations Research
· 30 credits for Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering
Application Procedure:
DURING THE JUNIOR YEAR OF THE CANDIDATE:
STEP 1: USTC sends CU a spreadsheet containing (Name, Gender, Undergraduate School, Major(s), GPA, Ranking %, GRE and TOEFL scores), with the official transcripts (in English) of all of the candidates.
STEP 2: CU reviews the information and provides USTC with a preliminary decision. This may be an iterative process to obtain clarifying information about the candidates’ profiles. Once there is clarity, a request for an interview is sent to the candidates.
STEP 3: CU provides an anticipated decision on the candidates based on the information provided. While this is not the final decision, it is a good indication of the outcome, provided that the student maintains the GPA during the last term of study in their undergraduate institution and continues to perform in their studies at USTC.
STEP 4: CU and USTC converges on the list of students to be admitted to USTC for the dual degree program. WHILE CANDIDATES ARE ENROLLED DURING THEIR FINAL YEAR AT USTC, AND PREPARING FOR THEIR APPLICATIONS TO CU FOR OFFICIAL ADMISSION.
STEP 5: USTC resends the spreadsheet from step 1 with an extra column containing their ranking thus are in USTC, with the official transcripts from USTC (in English) and any additional comments/recommendations. STEP 6: CU reviews the information and provides USTC with the final decision. This may be an iterative process to obtain clarifying information about the candidates' profiles.
STEP 7: USTC asks all candidates to apply to CU officially, with all information requested.
STEP 8: CU makes final decisions and informs the candidates.
Enrolment:
Students who wish to participate in the Program will be nominated by USTC. Any students nominated will be considered by Columbia according to its normal admissions policies and procedures.
Students from home institution USTC who are admitted to the Program must be regularly enrolled in the Bachelor program. After successfully completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Science program at USTC,students will be enrolled in one of the five Master of Science programs at Columbia (Master of Science in Business Analytics, Financial Engineering or Management Science & Engineering for 36 credits, or Master of Science in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering for 30 credits). These students will complete all the requirements for the specific Master of Science during the year they study at Columbia.

Students from USTC will pay required tuition fees to Columbia when they study at Columbia. Travel cost, room and board, and other personal costs will be borne by the student.
If eligible, students studying at Columbia University as part of this Program may receive financial aid funded by the United States government, but only while fulfilling degree requirements leading to the Master of Science degree at Columbia.
Because room and board are not covered in the tuition, students are responsible for making their own living arrangements, especially for securing their own housing.
Insurance:
While enrolled at Columbia, students will be required to enrol in Columbia's health service and medical insurance plans for full-time students and to pay the associated fees. In addition, they must complete an immunization document, as required by New York State and other applicable law, as may be updated and revised from time to time (currently,requiring immunizations to measles, mumps and rubella). Students must submit appropriate documentation to the Columbia Health Immunization Office before they register for classes.
